grandma’s mac and cheese


  • Four table spoons butter
  • Four table spoons flour
  • Two cups milk
  • One or two cups velveta (depending on preference)
  • Three cups Elbow macaroni
  • Grated parmesan cheese (optional)


  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Boil elbow macaroni
  • Cheese sauce:
    • Melt butter in sauce pan
    • Add flour, stir until smooth
    • Take off the burner and slowly add milk, stir until smooth.
    • Add in velveeta, stir until melted– use as much cheese as preferred.  I usually use about  two cups
  • Once noodles are fully cooked, pour noodles into a greased 9 x 12 pan
  • Pour cheese sauce over noodles
  • I usually add shredded parmesan cheese– not necessary, however
  • Bake at 350 for approximately 25-30 minutes
