5 simple tips for how to deal with stress

Let me start out this post by saying I am not a licensed mental health professional. If you are feeling anxious, there is no shame in consulting a professional for help and guidance.  Most of us are dealing with stresses of deadlines, and if you’re in law school, all those final exams are coming up!!  So, I wanted to put together a little guide for ways to help manage those stressors!

1. Workout

Trust, me I know what it feels like when you’re in a crummy mood to not want to work out. But times like those are when you really need to force yourself to hit the gym. Recently, i discovered hot yoga, and it has literally been a life changer for me. I go into the yoga room for an hour, and literally forget about work and everything else. it’s super refreshing.

2. Cut down Caffeine

That extra cup of coffee may feel necessary at the time, but trust me, it’s not. You don’t need to put extra stimulants in your body. Switch the coffee out for hot tea if you need a pick me up!

3. Call your sister

JK this is what I do, but if you don’t have a sister, call your friends or your support system. Sometimes just talking to another person about what’s bothering you, has the biggest impact. I call myself and tell about certain legal stuff that i know she could care less about, but being able to have her just listen to me and pretend to care makes all the difference.

4. Get some sleep

This is huge for stress. Regardless of how much work I have, I make it a point to be sleeping by 11 each night. We all need a certain amount of sleep to function properly, and when you are lacking it, you’re probably going to “triggered” at petty stuff.  Whether you’re studying for a final exam or stressing out about a trial, you will perform WAY better if you have a good nights sleep before hand. So, get your studying and preparation done before the night before, and get your rest.

5. eat well

I know it’s easy to stop by qdoba when you’re busy. But make sure you are making healthy decisions. Chose foods that will provide sustainable energy and won’t just be a quick sugary fix!
