Best Places to Eat (and drink) in Rapid City, South Dakota

After living in the Black Hills for a little over 3 years now, I have experienced some of the best and worst places to eat. John and I have tried little holes in the walls, and some of the more well-known restaurants. Additionally, I reached out to my Instagram followers and received a ton of feedback from the true locals.  Here is a comprehensive list of the best places to eat in Rapid City. Enjoy!

Breakfast/ Lunch:  Talley’s Silver Spoon

Talley’s Silver Spoon is probably the best breakfast, lunch, AND dinner place in Rapid City. I prefer to go there for breakfast, but honestly, every meal is a great one.  This is our go to lunch place during the work week, and our go to breakfast spot on the weekends. My favorite: the Vegetable breakfast

Steakhouse: Delmonico Grill

We love Delmonico grill. John’s favorite dish is actually the kona buffalo burger. Every cut of steak we have tried has also been amazing. I love going there for lunches throughout the week. My must have: French Onion Soup

Pizza/  Beer: Independent Ale House

The amount of beer Independent Ale House has on tap is amazing. In addition to having a great selection of beer, they have a great wine list and non alcoholic drinks as well. For dinner, you can pair your craft beer with a unique pizza.  The pizzas aren’t like regular pizzas; they are cool pizzas. My go to pizza is probably the mashed potato pizza or the Bob’s Popper

Mexican Food: Que Pasa Cantina

First, the atmosphere of Que Pasa Cantina restaurant is amazing (especially in the summer on the patio). They have a great variety of meals ranging from salads, to authentic Mexican dishes. I am obsessed with their patio in the summer. I also cannot get enough of their chips and salsa. Go to meal: Mexican Street Tacos

American food: Murphy’s Pub and Grill

Murphy’s has a great menu, and a really great atmosphere. It’s a great place for a date night or place to meet friends after work.  Murphy’s Pub and Grill’s  patio is bomb in the summer, and I have never had a meal that I didn’t love. Go to: Mac & Cheese and chislic for an appetizer.

Best Views: Vertex

This bar is located above the hotel alex johnson. If you are staying at the Hotel Alex Johnson, access to the Sky Bar is complimentary with your stay. If you are local, you can buy an annual pass which will get you all sorts of benefits, otherwise,  it is $20.00 to obtain access.  Once you’re up in the Sky Bar, you are able to see the most amazing views. The Vertex has awesome fireplaces to keep you warm on cool South Dakota nights. The Vertex also has a wonderful drink menu. My favorite: Cherry Pop Fizz. John’s favorite: Old Fashioned

Best Experience: Blind Lion Speakeasy

The blind lion is a speakeasy located underneath Murphy’s pub and grill.  You need to call or text them to get an access code and directions to the bar. Once you’re inside, you will be amazed. I don’t want to give away too many details, but once you’re down there, you can’t use your cell phone. It’s a really fun and intimate cocktail lounge, and the drinks are amazing. The décor comes straight from the prohibition era, and the bartenders play the part perfectly. My favorite drink: The Lavender star

Most Convient: Paddy O’neils:

If you’re just looking for a beer after a long day sight-seeing, Paddy O’Neils is a great little spot.  They have awesome popcorn and a great bar food menu as well.
